Arms: Sable, an estoile argent. Sable is black, argent is bare metal or silver, but is normally depicted using white, and an estoile is a six-pointed star with wavy rays. So, in 'plain speak', a silver six-pointed wavy-rayed star on a black field.

Origin: The Ingleby family is originally Norman and is believed to have come to England with the Norman invasion of 1066 under Duke William of Normandy (William the Conquorer), and settled in Yorkshire in the late 11th or early 12th century.
Ripley Castle: The Ingleby family took up residence in Ripley Castle, Yorkshire England, in the 14th century and an Ingleby, now Ingilby, has resided there continually to this day. The current owner of Ripley Castle is Sir Thomas Ingilby.
It should be noted that no link has been established between the Ingleby line described in this web site and the Ingelby line of Ripley Castle.
